WHAT ARE THE REASONS ASTROLOGY WORKS?

Tremendous biological, chemical and physiological changes occur at the instant a new born baby draws in the first breath and consequently lets out his or her first cry.  In the Scriptures it is said, “I will breathe the breath of life into them”.   At this moment in time, more than 400 million electromagnetic cells in the brain become programmed, like a computer by the invisible, but powerful cosmic frequencies, or light waves, coming from our Sun, our Moon and the planets in our solar system.  This occurs in a pattern corresponding to their position in space and their mathematically and astronomically -measured aspects to one another in that magnetically-charged moment in time.  The baby  will feel a powerful electromagnetic tug and become “programmed” so to speak.

If this baby could see the heavens above at that moment, he or she would see their birth chart.  This tug actually can be accepted or rejected through the gift of free will, each time in the future when the Sun, Moon and planets conflict or harmonize with each other and the baby’s programmed natal chart.  However, after doing hundreds of birth charts, I have found that most people do live out their chart and experience recurring planetary transits in the working out of their lives.  Transits can trigger a psychological response or an actual life experience, depending on the angle each planet is making to each planet in the birth chart.  These are called conjunctions, oppositions, sextiles, trines or squares (as well as minor aspects not listed) and depending on the angle, these feelings or experiences will appear to be happy or helpful, perhaps challenging or irritating or frustrating.  But, all serve a purpose in our lives, to help us along or to teach us lessons that also ultimately help us along on our path to growth.good teaching wheel.

STARTING OUT WITH THE ASTROLOGY GAME OF CARDS – A Quick Tutorial

The Astrology Game of Cards:    A good place to begin to enjoy the Basics of Astrology!

my cards learning layout

There are 4 cards for each Zodiac Sign in the above picture.

  • Column 1 shows  the Number cards
  • Column 2 shows the Constellation cards
  • Column 3 shows the Key Word cards
  • Column 4 shows the Symbol cards

Notice that on the left column, the Number cards start at the 1st sign Aries and go down to the 12th sign Pisces.  Each of the other columns do exactly the same, showing them in order from Aries to Pisces.   Shuffle the cards and find one card for each of the different types.  Then sort all of the cards into different piles; each pile made up of the same kind of card.  Then, starting with the Number cards, sort that pile into the order of their place in the Zodiac.

Notice that at the very top are two of the Helper cards…one showing the Order of the signs, and the other is an example of a Horoscope Wheel.

The helper card should now be used to help you sort each of the columns from Aries to Pisces.

If you play with the cards this way a few times, you will rapidly become familiar with them and this knowledge will be helpful as you begin to play all the fun games to follow!

If you look at the Symbols cards, you will learn the dates that each sign falls within.  e.g. Aries falls between March 22 and April 20th.  ( The dates for each sign can change according to your year of birth.  Birthdays on a cusp need a Birth Chart  done to determine their actual sign.  e.g. the beginning or end dates could change if you were born close to the beginning or end of a sign.

Now that you are familiar with the cards, a great game to start with is the “old fashioned” game of  WAR.   After shuffling, the deck is divided between the players.  Without looking at their cards, each player simultaneously plays their top card and the highest sign takes all the cards (Pisces being the highest card for this game).  If there is a tie, each then lays 3 cards face down spelling out w-a-r and turns up the 4th card proclaiming the word war and the highest card takes all cards in that play.  The largest pile wins!

Now you are ready to play some more great games!  See my Blog on How to Play The Astrology Game of Cards, which is also on the Menu Bar.

SUN SIGN TRIVIA

zodiac pictures all 12

Note that these Sun Sign traits are also found in those with these Signs Rising in their charts!

IN RANDOM ORDER BECAUSE ARIES ALWAYS GETS TO BE FIRST:

Cancerians …..or as I prefer to call them….Moon Children…because they are ruled by the Moon!  They are having birthdays as I am writing this so they go first.  Everyone should have a Cancerian friend; they will mother you, nurture you, cook for you, and do so many nice little things to help you out.  They are psychic, sensitive and emotional.  They sense your moods and feelings.  They might bore you with their family stories and their past and their opinions.  Often they are taken advantage of and others make great demands on their time and energy and might even become resentful when they can’t be available to them when needed.  They give because they want to and please don’t forget how smart and shrewd they are!

Aquarians know how to unite people in a common cause.  They would like to help everybody if they could.  They live in an intellectual world and always come up with great new ideas.  They are quite unconventional and always interesting. .  People are very attracted to them.   They don’t usually let others get too close and may sometimes seem aloof.  They are very kind and caring and true humanitarians.  Expect futuristic ideas, spiritual discussions and unusual views from your Aquarian friends.

Sagittarians have optimism, enthusiasm, wisdom and usually are truthful.  They are honest and moral and appreciate that in their friends.   They enjoy sports, athletics and love being outdoors.  If they aren’t playing, they are watching sports.  They like horses, enjoy watching them race and like to ride them.  They are ruled by jovial Jupiter, which generally bestows a cheerful nature.  This makes them enjoyable to be around.

Who has the most magnetic personalities?  Scorpios, of course!  They also have a strong will and an intense emotional nature. Their penetrating insight misses very little of whats goes on around them.  Due to their secretive and suspicious nature, people don’t always trust them.  They tend to be serious and could smile more to attract others.  They usually control their deep emotions and hide their true feelings.  If a Scorpio likes you, they will trust you, but if you wrong them, they never forget!  They usually attract jealousy into their lives but do have many loyal friends.

Taurus worries about job security and security in general.  They usually have fixed opinions and don’t like to change their minds.  They have an overly careful attitude about the work they do and can drive others who work more quickly somewhat crazy.  They should avoid nervous, fidgety people and situations where they feel pressured and pushed.  They will listen patiently to others’ troubles and pamper them with understanding.  Success and money rewards mean a lot to them.

Leos are the proud, determined, success-oriented ones who love to run things. They can become as irritable as a hungry lion, their symbol, if they don’t get approval and recognition.  They have strong values and expect others to live up to them.  When younger they are very proud of their long beautiful hair. Take a look at your Leo and Leo Rising friends and notice how many of them have noticeable moles or beauty marks on their faces.

Pisces are usually sensitive, easygoing, and lovable folks with very gentle natures, but when things go wrong for them, that can quickly  change into lots of  irritability.  They are two fish swimming in different directions.  That’s when they need  hugs, love and attention.  They will do any job that’s needed but want to feel appreciated.  They can be very inspirational to others.  Many of them are quite spiritual and they are also very artistic.  Certain ones appear to be vaguely confused at times and this is their ruler Neptune at work in their lives.

Aries can be quite impatient and those Aries reading this wondered when we would get to them.  They are always in a hurry and can get careless as a result.  They are intelligent and sensitive but may tend to say things without thinking.  They have firey enthusiasm, impulsive natures and creative minds.  They want to be liked just the way they are, but need to know that sometimes to win at life one must play the game.   They don’t like to stick to one project too long.  Aries have great leadership qualities.

The ambitious, practical one is Capricorn.  They mean business and nothing stops them.  They may get sidetracked or  slowed down but they never forget where they are headed.  They use everything efficiently to get the most out of life. They have a great sense of humor, yet they are quite serious and may be prone to melancholy or depression.  This comes from their ruler serious Saturn, the taskmaster of the zodiac.

The attractive, popular, well-liked folks are the Librans.  They are people-pleasers, and are also fair-minded and treat others with respect.  They seem to attract jealousy just like the Scorpios.  They enjoy talking but hearing your views too.  Don’t tell them any secrets you don’t want revealed; just like Geminis, they don’t mean to tell but it just slips out.  They are fashionable, charming, flirty and know how to make others feel good.  Making decisions is the hardest thing for them because they can see the benefits of both sides.

Virgos like to tinker and fix things using their analytical minds.  If they don’t know how, they will read the instructions and follow them to the letter.  They are always prepared and can solve your problems. They may be somewhat critical but are always attentive, alert and observant.  They enjoy organization and neatness and making order out of chaos.   They notice the tiniest details and analyze everything..

Gemini likes to talk, text, email and is also the practical joker.  They love to flirt!  They are popular because they relate well to people.  They love to be on the go and to learn new things.  Routine work bores them.  They are the twins of the zodiac and often show two different sides to others.  Which twin is out today?  They retain their youthful looks. even as they age.

Scientific Astrology

constellation pic  I have been reviewing some information from a book written in 1928 called “Simplified Scientific Astrology”.   I found the following facts to be very interesting because I had not heard some of them before.

During the 2000-plus years that have elapsed since the equinox came within orb of Pisces the sign of the fishes, religious rites have required that the people annoint themselves with “Piscean water” at the door of the church.  The service or Mass was performed by a priest whose hat resembled the head of a fish, and were originally told to abstain from eating meat on Fridays and at other times and to eat fish instead.  They were also taught to worship or honor an immaculate virgin (Mary) because Virgo, the sign of the virgin, is the sign  opposite Pisces and the opposite signs are as two sides of the same coin.   This type of worship will continue in a decreasing degree until the sign Aquarius and its opposite sign Leo have replaced the current symbols of christianity.  Having been brought up in the catholic church, I have seen all these Piscean symbols first hand and I know many changes have been taking place through the years.

On either side of the Ecliptic or Sun’s path are a number of fixed stars which form twelve groups or constellations, that are called ‘signs of the zodiac’. These twelve constellations are called the natural zodiac remaining in the same relative positions, so we use a Table of Houses our whole life and yet we must consult an Ephemeris to see the planets’ places every year.  symbol chart wheel

The sun crosses the celestial equator (precedes it) and this is called the precession of the equinox.   It takes about 2,156 years before the Sun recedes one constellation, traveling one degree about every 72 years; and it takes about 25,868 years for the Sun to circle back through all twelve constellations.

At the time that we were in the age of Taurus which is the sign of ‘the Bull’  the ancient Egyptians worshipped the sacred ‘Bull Apis’.  Their priests at that time wore the Uraeus or Serpent Symbol belonging to Scorpio  opposite Taurus, to indicate their possession of the esoteric wisdom.

When the Sun went into Aries by precession it became idolatry for ‘the chosen people’ to worship the Bull or ‘golden calf’.  They left Egypt and pinned their faith to the ‘ram’ or  ‘lamb’ which was then slain. According to the esoteric symbol for Libra, the opposite of Aries, which is ‘the scales of justice’,  He shall come again as judge.

The reason the Aquarian influence has already been felt is because the Sun’s orb is so large that it touches the cusp of Aquarius.  We have seen many new inventions and electronics (computers, smart phones and even smart cars) all brought into our experience.  Aquarius is also the sign of the humanitarian whose symbol is the Water Bearer, pouring out not water as is often suggested, but pouring wonderful ideas on humanity.  The coming possibilities for the human race are wonderful to contemplate.  When the equinox actually crosses into the sign of Aquarius in the year 2654, we should finally see the brotherhood and peace that this world longs to experience!

Born on a Cusp

planets pretty

Being born on the cusp between two zodiac signs often brings confusion about which sign you are.   If you have your chart done by an Astrologer with your exact time of birth, your true sign should be confirmed.  However, often the recorded times are not exact!  The Sun has a diameter of about half a degree so the Sun can actually straddle a cusp.  What is a cusp?  It is the imaginary line where one zodiac sign ends and the next sign begins.  You may actually share the qualities and vulnerabilities of both signs.  Life can be strange because you never know which sign you will be when you get up in the morning.

A major problem is that the signs next to each other are very different.  One will be more magnetic or passive and the other will be more electric or more active.   Statistically, it seems that about one in five people are Cuspers and many don’t even know it!   The cusp can extend a day or two both ways because the planetary energies don’t just stop dead when they hit that imaginary line, they slowly change. With the energy of two signs, you may just change back and forth on any given day, expressing one nature and then another nature.  This can cause others to never be sure who you are and even you may not be sure who you really are.   The good side is that you have more than one perspective and can see problems from a lot of different angles.  There is a blending of qualities in your personality.  Life is definitely never boring!

Some months change signs on the 19th or 23rd of the month, but the majority change on the 21st day.    In different years, the constellations changed signs at different times, so for instance, you could actually find that you are a Pisces by your time of birth and yet your friend sharing the same birthday may actually be an Aries or the previous sign,Aquarius, because he or she was born in a different year.

One example is a Pisces/Aries cusp birth:  Pisces traditionally runs from February 19 through March 20th.  This Cusper is one of the most complicated and confusing ones.  The Pisces nature is peace-loving, imaginative, quieter, softer, accepting, compassionate and more inwardly focused and more on the feminine side.  In contrast, the Aries nature is active, assertive, outward focused, temperamental, daring, confrontational and more on the masculine side.  So if you were born on this cusp, you would tend to be a camouflaged or hidden warrior. Others would certainly be surprised to see you change like that!

If you find that you are a cusp birth, read both signs and see how you can blend them, using the best parts of each to be your true, authentic self!

IS ASTROLOGY TRUE? DISCOVER THIS FOR YOURSELF!

I like what Derek and Julia Parker have to say in one of my favorite books,  The Compleat Astrologer.

astrology_astronomy_medicine picture

Astrology has always served to enlarge our understanding.  Changes have been made in recent years that promise to have a major effect on the progress of astrology; the new directions it can be expected to take, and the attitudes people are likely to adopt towards it.

These changes are mysterious and illuminating. Progressive astrologers, attempting to relate astrology to a science-oriented society are working with hardheaded scientists.  Looking at other points of view, common ground has been discovered in the field of biological rhythms and cycles, enough to show that astrologers and scientists are becoming very compatible.

The age of Aquarius holds a new fascination for the younger generation in search of meaning, although astrology is for people of all ages and generations. It knows no cultural or age differences.  Astrological truths are for all of us and hold us all together as a human family.

planets pretty

But is astrology true?  You must discover this for yourself.  No one can be persuaded simply by being told about it.  You have to choose to learn more about it.  To understand the influence of the heavenly bodies on mankind, we must understand the science behind astrology and the techniques of its art.  Astrologers honor and respect the truths of past masters.  We want to cast a deeper, clearer light on human life.

A star was the ancient Sumerian symbol for divinity. The stars provided a very impressive background to the interaction of other celestial bodies. Today we are naturally aware that the sun and moon exert a strong physical influence on our lives.  Back then, the Sun kept people warm and faded in the winter; day alternated with night, the sea rose and fell with the tides. These were mysterious processes of growth and decay, and the ebb and flow of the natural order helped provide a physical explanation of the universe.
From the viewpoint of earth, the stars turn around us in the pattern that is virtually unchanging from one year to the next.   The shifts that constantly occur were so slight that they were hardly noticed by the earliest observers.  The seven major bodies were noticed because of their rapid movement against the starry background of sky.  Early observers noticed the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.  In  Babylonian times there are stories written about  the planets, sun and moon representing gods with the power to direct or intervene in life, each one being allocated power over an area of human experience.

from Mars seeing Earth and Jupitr   The view from Mars of Earth and Jupiter

For example, Mercury was seen as a quick, cunning and wise god. Mars was the ruler of violence and war; Jupiter was a benevolent king-like ruler of men; Saturn was seen as a distant cooling sun in exile; quick-tempered and cruel.  Gradually, as these associations gained in authority, they were joined together to form the basis of astrological lore.

To add a little humor, today I saw this written:  God made the planet Saturn and he liked it, so he put a ring on it!!! saturn rings

Do You Know a Virgo?

virgo in garden

Virgo period:  August 22/23 – September 21/22.

Virgo,  the second of the earth signs, carries forward  some of the  qualities of Taurus, the first earth sign, but is much more sensitive. Virgos are sympathetic, but prefer to help others from behind the scenes.  There is a strong desire to be needed, but they don’t express it.   Many of their friends chose them,  rather than the other way around. These friends help them feel secure and confident.  Mercury, their ruler, boosts the intellect and Virgos dislike wasting time on too much trivial small talk.  What could deter from their  popularity would be sarcasm and the need to over-analyze everything    Friends dislike all the constructive criticism, yet Virgos usually command respect.  Once they form a  friendship, it will probably stand the test of time!

virgo explodes Virgo is one of the hardest workers in the zodiac. If you need a job done, hire a Virgo!  They are very practical and have a good eye for detail. They also have a lot of nervous energy and are in constant activity. They find it difficult to let up and relax.  They often pay so much attention to the details they could lose sight of the larger picture.

virgo cuteAt the end of a party those are Virgos you see in the kitchen helping to clean up.  They always want to be of help. Precision and neatness please them.  Usually there is also interest in health matters, diet and exercise programs, herbs and hygiene or there will be as they get older.     Virgos are usually very attractive and pleasant looking.

virgo constellation

Virgos tend to worry and may suffer some inhibition, making them nervous or high strung. This tension can cause intestinal upsets.  Hypochondria is not uncommon with Virgos.  A lot of their difficulties may be due to too much concern with small, unimportant details.  Meditation would be so helpful, as well as playing soft music while they work.    Virgos make great researchers. They are shrewd and logical.  Virgos love to have their own little garden and grow their own vegetables.  Planting, weeding and harvesting from their own garden makes them very happy.

If you have Virgo as your rising sign, much of this also applies to you; and you probably appear more Virgoan than the Virgo Sun signs, since our Rising sign is what we show in public.   Here are gift ideas:

AQUARIUS THE WATER-BEARER

aquarius water bearer

Aquarius the water-bearer – This is an air sign and not a water sign as many seem to think.  He is actually pouring out ideas, but many artists depict this as flowing water.

Aquarians are the humanitarians of the zodiac. They are independent, friendly, original, inventive, reforming, faithful, loyal, idealistic, and very intelligent.   They are also unpredictable, eccentric, rebellious, contrary, unconventional, and very fixed in their opinions.  They are sympathetic, yet a bit distant needing to remain personally detached. They make great sacrifices for their personal independence. These are also the ones who like to be involved in “causes:. They will always be an original and somewhat unconventional, and usually don’t care what others think of them.

They can be modern in outlook, yet stubborn and fixed in their opinions and  are not easy to persuade that they might be wrong. The Aquarian has an aloof manner that is fascinating and dynamic.  They are intelligent and rational and may be broad-minded or perhaps just indifferent. They have a scientific mind and approach problems analytically.   Never allow an Aquarian to feel  trapped. They must retain a degree of independence or they become very restless.  Many Aquarians enjoy living alone,  so they are able to feel totally free.  However, a good Aquarian marriage is extremely stable and you can expect loyalty and faithfulness. Image

A dull routine will bore an Aquarian.  They are quite inventive and bring a fresh approach to every task they undertake. In their spare time they enjoy learning to fly or even organizing archaeological digs. The computer was invented for them or maybe by them. Sports such as fencing, golf, and tennis are usually enjoyed and walking is great for them.  Excellent careers include – writer, philosopher, astrologer, astronomer, archaeologist, aviator, scientist, radiographer, inventor, electronics, politics, United Nations  and Air Force careers.   Aquarius has rule over the circulation and they and those with Aquarius strong in their charts such as an Aquarius rising sign frequently suffer from varicose veins and hardening of the arteries.   This sign also rules the shins and the ankles and fractures are common.  Cold-weather is very hard on them!

How to deal with an Aquarian:  Be direct and approach issues from a practical point of view.  Understand most of them  react through intelligence rather than emotion or instinct (unless they have water signs in their chart)!  Never bore an Aquarian, keep them interested and never cause them to feel tied down!

Saturday is their best day.

Favorable metals: stainless steel, aluminum, silver.

Favorable stones: garnet, amber

Favorable colors: electric blue, iridescent and silvery colors

Musical keynote: they vibrate best to “F”

Best number: eight, associated with inspiration.

Favorable flowers, trees and shrubs: violets, daffodils and other spring bulbs.  pine, beech, cypress, willow, date, apple, grape, pear, plum, banana.

Necessary herbs:  chamomile, basil, garlic, nettles, valerian, sage, sassafras, wintergreen, rosemary, parsley, mint, hyssop, gentian root, dill, coriander, chickweed and balm.
